ZENITH DATA SYSTEMS INTRODUCES TWO PC-COMPATIBLE POCKET ORGANIZERS
CHICAGO, May 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Zenith Data Systems, a Bull company, today announced two electronic pocket organizers that easily link with personal computers (PC) to exchange data, enabling users to transport and use PC files anywhere.
The ZDS-106 and ZDS-112 Pocket Organizers, to be sold through mass merchandisers and specialty retailers, were introduced at the Summer Consumer Electronics Show here today.
"This is the perfect tool for someone who wants more than an electronic way to organize a calendar and address book," said Ed Prokop, vice president, consumer division.
"Many people already keep information on a PC. Now they can load that information into a device no bigger than a wallet. Also, while traveling, they can update their address book or calendar and upload the information to their PC when they get back to the office."
The ZDS-106 Pocket Organizer comes with 64KB of memory, and the ZDS- 112 Pocket Organizer comes with 128KB of memory for greater storage. Both machines provide the ability to maintain telephone lists, business card files, memos, appointment schedules, lists of special dates and anniversaries, and expense reports -- then transfer them to a PC using software and a cable that are included at no additional charge.
Each machine also has a built-in calculator, calendar, and an alarm clock that features both local and world time. The ZDS-106 and ZDS-112 Pocket Organizers also have the ability to do metric, currency and worldwide clothing size conversions.
Some highlights of the new ZDS Pocket Organizers:
-- The units weigh less than 16 ounces with two AAA alkaline batteries.
 -- The organizers measure 3-1/4-inch (H) x 6-inch (W) x 3/4-inch (D).
-- A black and white LCD with 160 x 64 lines of resolution and a contrast adjustment control. The display is 26 characters wide x 8 lines of viewing.
-- A 50-key QWERTY-style keyboard, plus four-key arrow pad, up/down search keys and eight function keys.
-- A lithium "button" battery for memory back-up while replacing the main batteries.
The manufacturer's suggested retail price for the ZDS-106 Pocket Organizer is $199, and the ZDS-112 Pocket Organizer is priced at $299. Shipments are expected to begin in September.
Earlier this month, ZDS began shipments of its new line of PCs for distribution by mass-market retailers. The company announced a new line of four desktop PCs, four monitors and one notebook system at the Winter CES in January for the small-business and consumer market.
Zenith Data Systems, a Bull company, is a leading manufacturer and marketer of notebook and desktop computers, servers and monitors. With headquarters in Buffalo Grove, Ill., ZDS has engineering facilities in St. Joseph, Mich., Billerica, Mass., and Santa Clara, Calif.; manufacturing operations in St. Joseph, Mich., and Villeneuve d'Ascq, France; and sales facilities in more than 30 countries.
