 ZEBRA TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES PLANT EXPANSION
VERNON HILLS, Ill., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Zebra Technologies

(NASDAQ: ZBRA) announced today that it has broken ground on a factory and office expansion of its headquarters facility located in Vernon Hills, Ill. The 36,700-square-foot expansion increases Zebra's plant by 55 percent incorporating 25,200 square feet of new factory space and 11,500 square feet of offices. Completion is scheduled for the first quarter of 1993.
"This expansion is required to accommodate the increased demand for Zebra's products," said Charles R. Whitchurch, Zebra's chief financial officer. "Over the past two years we have repatriated production from off-shore and expanded production in the United States because of lower costs, higher quality, and improved responsiveness to customers. In addition, we announced two important new products last month that require additional production space," Whitchurch stated.
Zebra announced two major additions to its Value-Line(TM) of thermal transfer printers at the Scan-Tech industry trade show held in Anaheim, Calif., Oct. 5-8. "The Stripe(TM) S-500 and S-300 printers are the culmination of a year-long development effort by Zebra and incorporate revolutionary design concepts that enhance ease-of-use and performance, improve quality, and reduce manufacturing cost," Whitchurch explained.
Zebra manufactures a full line of high performance and Value-Line demand label printers and related supplies used in bar code labeling applications. These products are sold world-wide through a multiple channel distribution system primarily into the non-retail sectors of the economy. Zebra recently announced a 23 percent increase in quarterly sales and a 39 percent increase in net profits. Its stock is traded on the NASDAQ under the symbol ZBRA.
