Z-CODE SOFTWARE AND SILICON GRAPHICS ANNOUNCE LICENSING AGREEMENTS
SGI Chooses Z-Mail, and Offers It to Customers
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Silicon Graphics Inc. (NYSE: SGI) and Z-Code Software Corp. (privately held) have jointly announced full site license and distribution agreements for Z-Code Software's Z-Mail(TM) electronic mail management software. SGI has installed Z-Mail world-wide and will distribute Z-Mail on SGI hardware through the SGI Software Express(TM) program.
"We evaluated a number of electronic mail products before choosing Z-Mail as our corporate e-mail solution," said Sherry Whiteley, director of End-User Computing at SGI. "Z-Mail was the best fit for our user community. Its graphical user interface is simple enough for our most inexperienced users, and its configurability and scripting language make it sophisticated enough to satisfy the needs of our demanding technical staff."
Effective immediately, SGI's Software Express will distribute Z-Mail for all of SGI's computer hardware. "We're extremely pleased to have SGI on board as a Z-Mail user and distributor," said Z-Code President and CEO Dan Heller. "Working with SGI has been a real pleasure. Software Express will be an excellent partner in getting Z-Mail out to SGI users everywhere."
Z-Mail is priced at $295 for a single-user license, $1,395 for a five-user license, and $2,495 for a 10-user license. An annually renewable technical support contract includes free maintenance updates and a very steep discounting schedule for new releases. Z-Mail is a comprehensive electronic mail management system available for almost all UNIX systems. Z-Mail supports the Motif(TM) graphical user interface from OSF, as well as fullscreen and line-oriented character mode interfaces. Z-Mail is designed on a powerful object-oriented scripting language called Z-Script, which allows Z-Mail to act as a complete electronic mail technology. Embedded in Z-Script are commands that enable users to customize and extend the user interface as well as the lower level functionality. Z-Mail works with all standard UNIX mail transport agents and is backwards compatible with existing electronic mail utilities including BSD Mail, AT&T mailx, Sun Mailtool and Mush. Z-Mail also supports arbitrary multi-media messages, allowing easy integration with best-of-class products including spreadsheets, desktop publishing tools, graphics, schedulers or database applications.
