Youth team go down to Kuwait.

BAHRAIN'S youth national soccer team will finish the Under-17 Gulf Cup in last place following a 0-2 defeat to hosts Kuwait last night in their classification game for fifth place.

After holding their rivals for more than an hour, the Bahrainis gave up two goals in the final quarter-hour to fall to their second straight defeat and to sixth place overall.

Faisal Ajab opened the scoring for the Kuwaitis in the 78th minute. Teammate Yousef Aman then sealed their win with a strike three minutes from full time.

The Bahrainis had to play the final 30 minutes of the match with 10 men. Youngster Hakim Al Aribi was sent off in the 58th minute.

The tournament continues today when Qatar and Oman battle for third place. The match is scheduled to kick off at 6pm, Bahrain time.

Holders UAE and Saudi Arabia then battle for the under-17 Gulf title tomorrow, in the final starting at 7.30pm. Both teams will be gunning for their third championship overall in the history of the competition.
