Yousay - England won't win.

Byline: Peter Paul Razzi

IF I hear any more about Wayne Rooney's foot, I will need to take a tablet and lie down. Please, enough already.

England won't win theWorld Cup with him or without him. Let's stop pretending England are better than the top end of mediocre.

Wayne's foot injury could be a blessing in disguise, because when England go out in the early stages of the tournament, we can console ourselves with the thought: If only Wayne had been fit, he would have done a Maradona and won it for us.

Between Wayne Rooney's foot, Michael Owen's foot and David Beckham's back, is it any wonder we haven't time to worry about the Labour party, pensioners, foreign murderers and rapists on the streets, feral mobs on every corner, the NHS, global warming, petrol prices and people starving around the world. Not to mention a hosepipe ban.

It's only right we give our heroes such adulation and media coverage when they do so much by entertaining us with their football skills once a week.

They do it for the love of the game and because we are the best fans in the world - and the money isn't bad.
