YourSay: Missing that gap.

Byline: FH Jennings

SO THEY want people to use public transport more. Then we hear the buses are over-heating. And the rails are buckling in the heat on the railways.

When I worked on the railways in the war before being called up there used to be a gap left in the tracks for heat expansion, with a plate holding them together with two bolts either side. That's why we had the clickety-clack, going along. Don't we ever learn?

In the 1947 winter, going back to barracks, at Warwick the trains ran on time as well (steam of course).
