Your Say : Bishop inspired so many.

Byline: Carolyn Rogers

I READ with interest your article about the farewell service for the former Bishop of Birmingham, Dr Sentamu, now Archbishop of York. He is a truly inspirational person. Not knowing he was about to visit Coleshill on his pilgrimage around the diocese at Eastertide, I was gazing out of my front cottage window when I saw this rather diminutive figure dressed in an anorak smiling broadly at me. It took me a short while to realise who it was!

I wished I'd been at the church to welcome him.

Then I attended some of the meetings at Aston Park.

I believe many people's attitude and actions were changed as Dr Sentamu urged us all to turn from serving idols to the true and living God.

Then in the summer he came to install our new vicar at St Peter's and St Paul's at Coleshill.

In closing, I have to say I had a most gracious letter of thanks to acknowledge a small gift I'd sent him to mark his visit to our town.

The letter, together with the Mail article, will remain forever a treasured possession
