Your Payroll Privacy Questions Answered.

On January 1, 2004, the final phase of the implementation of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) came into force in Canada. This act applies to the collection, use or disclosure of personal information in the course of any commercial activity inter-provincially.

The Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) offered its first Web seminar in September 2004 on the topic of payroll and privacy. During the seminar, close to 200 questions were posed to the expert facilitator, Murray Long. Due to time constraints, only a choice few of those questions were answered during the seminar. But because the organization felt the questions posed were all worth addressing, Your Payroll Privacy Questions Answered was collated and published recently as a useful guide for payroll experts. It offers an overview of the legislation and addresses the questions from the seminar in a simple, well-organized format.
