VALE of Glamorgan Football Academy teams have been bang on target in their latest round of matches.

Winning four out of six games, the sides netted 24 goals, with the under-8s leading the way in a convincing 8-1 success against the Newport branch of the Cardiff City Academy. Man of the match for the Vale was Sion Spence.

The under-9s, 10s and 11s also entertained the Newport sides at Barry's Jenner Park Stadium. In a 3-2 victory, Mattie Roberts was man of the match for the under-11s. The under-9s and 10s were beaten 6-5 and 5-2 respectively, with Ben Stewart (under-9s) and James Holder (under-10s) praised for their efforts.

The under-9s and 10s were also in action against Afan Nedd Schools at the Llandarcy Academy of Sport (Neath), and recorded 4-0 and 2-1 wins respectively. Man of the match awards went to Duncan Ace (under-9s) and Matty Clay and Michael George (under-10s).

The academy is run through the Vale Council sports development unit, and football academy officer Nathan Nurton said: "Once again our sides should be proud of their performances. Man of the match awards were awarded but there were some outstanding team efforts."
