Youngsters get their chance on world stage.

A group of youngsters are jetting off to St Petersburg to join in one of the most important international political summits.

The eight Year 9 pupils from Caedmon School, Whitby, have been chosen to attend the G8 summit in Russia in July. They will take part in the G8 youth summit and debate the issues being discussed by leaders of the G8 countries - UK, USA, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, Germany, and Russia.

The youngsters will call on leaders to tackle the problems of energy shortages, global education and the spread of infectious diseases and to give support to the Commonwealth of Independent States in Eastern Europe and Asia.
