Youngsters ( Sage wants you.

The regional youth ensembles at The Sage Gateshead attract some of the country's most talented musicians ( and it's recruiting time.

Music lovers were amazed a few days ago by the young talent on stage during the Youth Ensembles Spring Fever concert.

As part of its range of projects and programmes for young people, the Sage runs six regional youth ensembles.

They are: Folkestra, a folk band led by Kathryn Tickell; Jambone, a jazz big band; the wind orchestra Katabatic Winds; the choir Quay Voices; steel pan band Volcano; and the Young Sinfonia, the chamber orchestra associated with the Northern Sinfonia.

In April there will be three opportunities for young musicians thinking of applying for a place to see some of the musicians in action.

Jambone will appear on April 21 in Hall Two at 7pm.

The Young Sinfonia and Folkestra both take part in The Sage Fiddles on Fire festival, from April 27-29.

Folkestra will also appear in Hall Two on April 28 at 5pm.

The Young Sinfonia will take the stage in Hall One at 11am on April 29.

Members are usually aged 13-19.
