TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular teenager who died after plunging from an apartment balcony in Cyprus.

Conor Morgan, from Dundalk in Co Louth, was found dead at a hotel in Ayia Napa at around 4am yesterday.

While the exact circumstances are unknown, local news outlets say police believe he fell from a second-floor balcony.

It's understood the 19-year-old was on holiday in the country with a group of friends.

The talented DCU student was very popular in the Louth GAA community and played football with Dundalk Gaels and helped them to the Senior Championship final in 2017.

The club made the tragic announcement on its Facebook page yesterday morning.

It said: "Dundalk Gaels regret to announce the death while on holidays of our club member, player and great friend Conor 'Morgie' Morgan.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family Paul, Blathnaid and Sarah at this incredibly difficult and devastating time."

Collon-based Mattock Rangers GAA club posted: "We would like to offer our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the late Conor Morgan from Dundalk Gaels. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam."

Newtown Blues GFC, which beat the Gaels to win the Louth senior championship last year, also wrote online: "The club would like to offer its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the late Conor Morgan from Dundalk Gaels."

And Clan na Gael in Dundalk added: "Thoughts and prayers to Dundalk Gaels and the family of Conor Morgan at this incredibly difficult time, RIP."

A minute's silence was held before Louth's qualifier game against London yesterday for Conor and Louth women's football manager Micheal McKeown who died on Tuesday aged 67.

Fianna Fail councillor Emma Coffey said: "I offer my sincerest condolences to the Dundalk Gaels and Morgan family on the tragic news of Conor Morgan's passing. I am so shocked and saddened to hear of this tragic news. RIP."

On April 30 an Irish tourist was rushed to hospital with severe head injuries after a balcony fall in Albufeira, Algarve. The 33-year-old was believed to be on holiday with his wife and parents.

On March 16, Donegal teacher Emmett Blain died after falling from a balcony in Dubai.

And on January 21, Done women Louise Furey, 27, lost her life after a balcony fall in Thailand.
