BAHRAIN'S young karting hopefuls will compete with several of the world's best karters today in the CIK-FIA U18 World Championship and the Academy Trophy, both taking place at Angerville in France.

Abdulla Al Thawadi, Adeeb Kuzbar, Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa put on a brave show over 13 laps during yesterday's qualifying sessions.

Kuzbar was in great form and finished 15th (54.574 seconds) in his group, which featured 29 drivers.

In another group, Al Thawadi will be starting from 17th place on the grid after clocking 54.839 seconds in six laps, while Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa was 13th among 24 drivers with a time of 55.134 seconds in eight laps.

In the Academy Trophy, Bahrain's fourth representative Shaikh Isa was able to clock 58.055 seconds in 12 laps.

Bahrain's progress was witnessed by Bahrain Motor Federation and CIK president Shaikh Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa and CIK member Mazin Al Hilli.

The Bahraini officials also met the four young drivers after the qualifying sessions and congratulated them on their impressive results.

Both races today in this three-day championship, the second round of the series, promises to be particularly fierce with several prominent European drivers seeking podium spots.

The participants are scheduled to return to Gabriel Thirouin Racing Circuit today for the final phase of racing with the aim of collecting as many points as possible in the championship, which will concluded from November 8 to 10 in Bahrain.
