Young's launch first UK 'pop up' fish shop.

IN an unusual but innovative move Young's Seafood has joined forces with award winning Cambridge chip shop owners, the Petrou brothers, to launch the UK's first pop up 'Young's Fish & Chip Shop'. While the Grimsby based company's products are a familiar sight in supermarkets, it is also a significant supplier to the foodservice and own label sector.

The pop up 'Young's Fish & Chip Shop', on Burleigh street in Cambridge has brought together Young's responsibly sourced fish and the Petrou brothers frying expertise. Information on seafood species will be available for children in store and local kids will be able to attend 'School of Fish' educational demonstrations about fish with the Petrou brothers, in the spring.

Simon Clarke, Business Unit Director at Young's Seafood Limited, said: "Launching a pop-up Young's Fish and Chip Shop is an exciting new way for us to serve up the responsibly sourced fish we supply. Partnering with master friers the Petrou brothers made perfect sense as they share our commitment to providing high quality fish and seafood from hake sourced from a Marine Stewardship Certified fishery to popcorn scampi for kids.

"The pop-up shop will provide lots of different species as part of our Fish for Life drive to encourage people to try a wider variety of fish. "We hope that people who come into the pop-up shop partnership will feel like they have entered the true home of fish, kids will join in with our School of Fish and everyone will be inspired to try seafood in a new way."

The Petrou brothers said: "Working with Young's has finally given us access to the very best quality and species of sustainable fish in the ocean. On a local level, we are delighted to be bringing this exciting partnership to Burleigh Street. "Born into the fish and chip industry, after their father opened his first chippy in 1968, brothers Mark and Peter Petrou have continued their father's good work serving fish and chips to the good people of Chatteris and Cambridge for more than 30 years. They have since won several National industry awards including being crowned top UK' Fish and Chip Champs' in 2007. Mark Petrou is one of the master fryers teaching at the KFE school of frying excellence and opens shops for clients around the globe.

Mark was also recognised at the 2013 Fish and Chip awards with the prestigious outstanding achievement award.
