--Journalists Invited to Receive Email Updates of Significant Site Outages
Keynote (Nasdaq:KEYN), The Internet Performance Authority(R), detected what appeared to be a significant outage today of the fast growing YouTube Web site beginning at approximately 7:30 a.m. pacific time. Keynote's global infrastructure of measurement computers for assessing site performance observed that the site returned online at approximately 1:30 p.m. pacific and YouTube officials have reportedly now acknowledged the six hour outage.
Earlier today when users attempted to access the YouTube Web site the following statement appeared on the site: "We're currently putting out some new features, sweeping out the cobwebs and zapping a few gremlins. We'll be back later. In the meantime, please enjoy a layman's explanation of our website."
In tracking the outage Keynote measured YouTube's speed and reliability from 25 cities around the U.S. In each case, Keynote received a quick download of the above message rather than the normal homepage of the site. Today's unplanned event underscores for companies the need to perform regular site load testing -- in addition to ongoing site monitoring. Keynote will continue to closely watch the performance of the YouTube Web site and welcomes journalist inquiries regarding the site performance (speed/reliability) of YouTube and other popular Web sites, such as MySpace.com. Journalists are invited to receive email updates of significant site outages.
