You say: Thatcher gets lucky.

Byline: Bernard Campbell

WE have seen on the news and read (`Thatcher is fined for plot', ECHO Jan 13) that Sir Mark Thatcher has been found guilty, fined in the region of pounds 250, 000, and had a four-year suspended prison sentence for charges relating to plotting a coup in Equato-rial Guinea. If it were not for his money and connections of Baroness Thatcher (much loved by the people of Liverpool for all that she didn't do for this great city), he would be languishing in jail with all the failed coup members, some doing 20 years, I believe.

Is it not within the law to take away his honorary title of `Sir'?.

Mr Thatcher has now decided to leave South Africa and has gone to USA to be with his family. Long may he stay there.

Bernard Campbell, Walton
