Yes, yes, of course it's safe to go cage-diving with sharks.. oh, wait! INCHES FROM DEATH Huge, panicked shark fills the tiny cage while the diver tries to take cover; GREAT FRIGHT BUT DIVER DODGES BEING DINNER.

Byline: STEVE ROBSON

THE world's luckiest diver lived to tell the tale after a 12ft Great White shark smashed its way into his tiny metal safety cage.

The huge predator thrashed about wildly to escape the cage after it lunged at a piece of bait left out by the dive crew and got stuck inside.

But the diver, said to be an experienced instructor, kept calm and waited for the shark to escape before swimming to the surface.

His friends cheered as he clambered on to the boat, unhurt. He told them: "My heart is going!" It happened on a diving trip off Baja California in Mexico.

Experts said the shark broke into the cage by mistake and wasn't trying to kill the diver.
