Yentob: I can justify jetset costs; EXPENSES.
BBC big spender Alan Yentob could not do his job if he did not travel business class, he insisted yesterday.
Yentob, the Beeb's creative director who claims tens of thousands of pounds a year in expenses, defended his costs in a London speech.
He also criticised regulators, such as the National Audit Office, who, he said, were affecting the BBC's ability to act in the best interests of the licence fee payer.
His recent expenses include a business-class return flight from London to New York, costing pounds 3,381.
Mr Yentob, 63, said he gave a talk, filmed for his arts show Imagine and was back at work within 24 hours.
He told a Voice of the Listener and Viewer conference: "Do you think I should have travelled economy? I wouldn't have been capable of doing the job."
Talking of the National Audit Office, he said it can be "trying" when it interferes in programme-making.
