Year of the lame duck; Palace's 'awful' Chinese New Year bash.

Byline: VICKY SMITH

GUESTS want refunds after an "embarrassingly awful" Chinese New Year party at Blenheim Palace.

Dozens have complained about the "lame" PS26 event at the stately home.

Jo Millar, on Facebook, said it was "an insult to Chinese culture".

She added: "I have never seen such tatty lionsand half a dozen or so Chinese lanterns."

Pictures showed sparse crowds and big queues for just one food truck.

The Oxfordshire estate had promised a celebration packed with colourful performances, street food stalls and Eastern decorations.

Kate Bailey, of Woodstock, Oxon, said she stood in line for one hour and 45 minutes and had to pay PS40 for pizzas.

She added: "A day out that was disappointing from the outset, costing a huge amount of money."

Toni Delli-Compagni, from Bicester, Oxon, wrote: "So much for Chinese New Year - that was shocking.

"One food stall that looked like a kebab van," James Minion, from Witney, Oxon, added: "This was utterly lame."

Blenheim Palace, birthplace of Winston Churchill, has apologised, saying: "We were let down by several food vendors. We will be reviewing how we can make big improvements for next year."
