FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- In a move to provide strong European leadership to its major new French subsidiary, Newport Corp. (NASDAQ: NEWP) has named Yves Bouvier to head Micro-Controle, S.A., Richard Schmidt, Newport chairman and chief executive officer, announced today.
During September, Newport Corp. completed its purchase of the micro-positioning operations of Micro-Controle, based in Evry, France. Revenues for 1990 approximated $55 million. Jean Delage and Robert Dalem, its founders, continue as technical advisers.
Most recently, Bouvier, 43, held the post of division manager of Metrologie, a French personal computer and networking distributor. In this role, he had responsibility for four product groups producing $140 million in annual revenues. Prior to serving with Metrologie, Bouvier was president of Gould Electronics' French subsidiary, doubling its export business during his tenure. He also spent 12 years with the European operations of Texas Instruments.
Schmidt said, "After an extensive search, we are pleased to fill this key post and welcome Yves Bouvier to the Newport executive team. He has an outstanding record of business achievement, knows France and the European market thoroughly and has worked extensively for U.S. companies.
"Along with Micro-Controle's well-respected executive and technical staff, he will have a central role to play in realizing the benefits resulting from the partnership between our two companies. We will be working together to rationalize our product lines, integrate distribution and make the most of our broadened customer base, increased capabilities, and expanded geographic position."
"Looking ahead, we are enthusiastic about our world-wide opportunities. In Micro-Controle, we have joined forces with an international leader which will be instrumental in helping us reach our goal of global leadership in our selected markets."
