YOUR VOICE: In a cleft stick.

Byline: John Delaney

I WAS shocked by the British police killing of Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes, 27.

The police thought the man was linked to a terrorist group but they have now admitted that they made a mistake.

I understand the fear and tension that must exist in London at the moment. But if we are to defeat terrorists we must make sure that we don't sink to their level - suspects must be tried in a court of law.

In Ireland, British security forces acted outside the law against terrorism and it only made the problem worse.
