Byline: G. Jones

MRS C. Ellis of Mold turns her nose up at bilingual education in Wales (Letters, February 4), yet it has been proved, worldwide, thatlearning a second language represents intellectual and cultural enrichment on the part of an individual.

Most European countries have no hang-ups about bilingualism and they recognise that it's important for them to learn English as well speaking their native tongue.

We have understood this in Wales and have established Welsh language and bilingual education. The results are that bilingual and Welsh medium schools are the best performers when it comes to exam achievements.
