YOUR MONEY: Q&A Your questions answered.

Q I UNDERSTAND it is a good idea to review personal pensions as charges have fallen in recent years. Can you recommend an adviser to speak to?

A PMI offer a free review service on 0800 0183751.

Q I'VE often read about the P/E ratio in financial articles. What does it mean?

A A P/E ratio is the price/ earnings ratio of a share. This is the price at which a share can be bought or sold, divided by the earnings per share. A financial expert will often compare P/E ratios of similar companies. A high P/E ratio relative to similar firms may suggest that the market expects that company's profits to grow rapidly while a low ratio means the market expects little or no growth.

Q I HAVE a with profits bond and a personal pension with companies that have closed these funds. Is this likely to affect the performance of these plans?

A IT is common for the mix of investments to change when these funds become closed. This may mean that the fund no longer matches your needs. It is important to have a review of your plans as soon as possible. Readers still invested in any closed funds can arrange a free review of their plans by ringing 0800 544 644.

Q WE want to invest for our grandchildren but we strongly want to avoid putting the money where it may be invested in things like factory farming, pornography or arms manufacture. Can we be this choosy?

A YES, you can by investing in an ethical or socially responsible fund. Several investment providers run such funds, including some friendly societies, so take advice to choose which fund suits you. For a free guide to investing in ethical or socially responsible funds ring 0800 544 644.

Q WITH two elderly parents whose health is beginning to fail, what are my and their options to cope with nursing home fees?

A YOU need to take advice, but you could consider an Immediate Care or Long Term Care plan. A Property Trust to help protect their home from being sold to pay future fees may also be worth considering. For free guides on Long Term Care and Property Trusts ring 0800 544 644.
