YORK JTPA WORKERS JOIN PSSU

YORK, Pa., March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- York County Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) employees have become the newest members of the Pennsylvania Social Services Union (PSSU).
By a vote of 22-0, JTPA employees voted to join PSSU, Local 668, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) AFL-CIO.
The election was conducted by the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board (PLRB). Ballots were tallied March 10 at 11 a.m.
Mark Kreitzer, a JTPA employee, stated, "For years we have been underpaid and taken advantage of. This vote shows a real sense of solidarity. People are ready for a change."
The York County employees filed a representation petition with the PLRB on Oct. 6, 1992. Ballots were mailed by the board to each employee on Feb. 23, 1993.
The county commissioners have five days in which to file objections to the election. If no objections are filed, the election results will be certified. PSSU Organizing Director Jeff Hunsicker said, "We expect to file a demand to bargain by the end of next week."
JTPA workers provide probationary and counseling services to York County residents.
