 YORK, Pa., July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- York International Corporation


(NYSE:YRK) today reported record sales and operating income for the second quarter of 1992.

 Sales for the quarter ended June 30, 1992, were $517.5 million as compared to $427.6 million reported for the second quarter of 1991, an increase of 21.0 percent. Income from operations increased 27.1 percent to $54.1 million compared to $42.5 million for the second quarter of 1991. Income before the extraordinary item was $23.7 million; $.63 per share, as compared to $5.2 million; $.26 per share, for the second quarter of 1991. An extraordinary charge of $18.3 million resulting from the write-off of fees and expenses associated with the refinancing of York's credit facility was recorded during the quarter. Net income was $5.4 million; $.14 per share, as compared to $5.2 million; $.26 per share, for the second quarter of 1991.
 "The second quarter of 1992 represents the largest sales and operating income quarter in the history of the company," said Robert N. Pokelwaldt, York's president and chief executive officer. "Also of note, our order backlog at June 30 was $586 million, a record for second quarter and an increase of 3 percent over June 30, 1991, backlog of $569 million." Pokelwaldt added: "If we restate 1991 results using the estimated effect for the consolidation of our German operations, the use of proceeds from our October 1991 public offering and subsequent restructuring of debt, and the sale of 5 million additional shares to the public in March 1992, the company would have reported earnings per share of $0.51 for the second quarter of 1991. The $.63 we reported represents a 23.5 percent increase over this restated figure."
