YORK INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF CHAIRMAN

 YORK, Pa., Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- York International Corporation (NYSE: YRK) announced today that Robert N. Pokelwaldt has been appointed as chairman of the board of directors of the corporation.
 Pokelwaldt has served as president and chief executive officer of the company and will continue to handle these responsibilities. Pokelwaldt succeeds James T. Dresher who announced his retirement as chairman of the board on Jan. 7, 1993.
 Dresher began his tenure with York International in 1985 and served as the executive vice-president and chief financial officer until January 1987 when he was appointed vice-chairman. Dresher was appointed chairman and chief executive officer in August of 1988.
 In announcing Dresher's retirement, Pokelwaldt stated, "Jim Dresher's contributions were invaluable in establishing York International as a world leader in the heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration industry. He played an instrumental role in reversing the financial fortunes of the company and establishing the foundation for the present and future success that the company has come to experience. We very much appreciate all that Jim Dresher has contributed to this company and we wish him all the very best in his retirement."
