YMCA CHILDREN TELL WHY, THIS MOTHER'S DAY,
 'MY MOTHER DESERVES A DIAMOND'
MIAMI, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- "She is my mother and I love her more than anything or anyone in the world," wrote 10-year-old Jean Marc Paulino of his mother in the eighth annual South Florida "Why My Mother Deserves a Diamond" contest. Paulino and other children from the countywide Greater Miami YMCA's after-school program, participated in this year's event by putting their feelings for their mothers on paper. "Nobody, just nobody can take her place in being my mother," summed up Paulino.
Paulino, a fourth grader at Miami Shores Elementary, was this year's grand prize diamond winner. Six grade-level winners were also selected, along with six honorable mention winners.
Gary Graham, executive director of the Greater Miami YMCA said, "This was the first year that the YMCA has been part of the contest and I think it was a really positive experience for the children. It amazes me how expressive children can be and it's very touching to read how deeply they feel for their families," Graham added.
Several children took the opportunity to write about both their mothers and fathers. Sixth grade winner, Lydia Fonseca from Kelsy Pharr Elementary, wrote, "...I have parents that are great, they are people to appreciate. If you lived with them you would see, how nice they are, and how neat!..."
Entries were both humorous and touching. First grade winner, Jessica Weiss wrote, "My Mom and Dad deserve a diamond because they've always loved me. So much that I'd do almost anything for them. Like mop the hole house and sweep every floor." Second grader Nikitra Oliver-Lovett says of her mother, "She is the lady that I want to be like when I grow up."
"We appreciate the Diamond Information Center for sponsoring the contest and inviting us to participate, as well as Argenti Designer Jewelers and the Sheraton Brickell Point for allowing several children the opportunity to give something special to their mothers," Gary Graham said.
Paulino's mother will be presented, on Mother's Day, with a heart- shaped diamond pendant, designed especially for her by Argenti Designer Jewelers. The will also share a limousine ride to the Sheraton Brickell Point for a Mother's Day lunch. The six grade-level winners win lunch as well. All of the winning entries will be on display at the Sheraton Brickell Point, May 1 through Mother's Day.

"Why My Mother Deserves a Diamond"
Hi my name is Jean Marc Paulino. And I am writing this letter because it is my assignment to. My mother deserves a diamond because she takes care of me. She pays all the house bills to keep me safe and not sorry. She uses her tax dollars to keep me in school. Nobody, just nobody can take her place in being my mother. She provides me with the things that I need. She is my mother and I love her more than anything or anyone in the world. If she wins the prize tell her anyway you can that I love her and I hope she thinks it's true. The end.
