YLD hands out affiliate awards.
The Sarasota County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division took home the Outstanding Florida Young Lawyer Affiliate of the Year Award for its numerous projects, including a series of workshops titled Law in the Library, which provides legal information to the general public.
The Outstanding Public Service Project of the Year Award went to the Jacksonville Bar Association Young Lawyers Section for its Tee It Up Annual Charity Golf Tournament. Since 2004, the project has raised more than $20,000 for various organizations. This year the beneficiary will be Big Brothers/Big Sisters of North East Florida.
The Clearwater Bar Association Young Lawyers Section picked up the Outstanding Member Service Project Award for its judicial reception that honors local the judiciary and provides an opportunity for members of the Clearwater YLS to enrich their relationships with about 150 judges and senior attorneys who attend the event.
In an effort to encourage affiliate organizations to attend the AOC, the YLD also rewarded prior participating affiliates who encouraged the attendance of new or lapsed affiliates for the first time. The recruiting affiliates were awarded a $200 grant to use for a local project, and the recruited affiliates received a $150 grant.
The winners included:
* The Josiah T. Walls Bar Association, which recruited the Eighth Judicial Circuit YLD.
* The Marion County Bar young lawyers, who brought the Seminole County YLS.
* The Dade County YLS, which brought the Gwen S. Cherry Black Women Lawyers Association to the event.
* The Tallahassee Bar Association Young Lawyer Section, which recruited the Tallahassee Women Lawyers.
