YELLOW FREIGHT ANNOUNCES FAVORABLE JUDGMENT IN ANTITRUST CASE
OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Officials of Yellow Freight System, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Yellow Freight System, Inc. of Delaware (NASDAQ: YELL), were elated today with the favorable judgment handed down in a five and one-half year antitrust case.
The United States District Court in South Carolina today entered a judgment in favor of the defendants, Yellow Freight System, Inc., Consolidated Freightways, Inc. (NYSE: CNF) and Roadway Express, Inc. The 1987 case was filed by Lifshultz Fast Freight.
"For the duration of the case, we have contended that the suit was false and completely without merit. It is quite obvious that the court agreed. The order describes the plaintiff's expert testimony as reading more like a cheap novel than an economic report," said George E. Powell III, president and chief executive officer of Yellow Freight System, Inc. of Delaware.
"Nonetheless, we vigorously defended the charge to prove our past and current adherence to antitrust laws," he added.
The case alleged that the defendants had been engaged in a conspiracy for over 15 years designed to drive competitors out of the less-than-truckload (LTL) business. Powell said the court dismissed that assertion and a related RICO charge as false and without merit.
Yellow Freight System, Inc. of Delaware, headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas, owns companies specializing in transportation, technology and logistics services.
