Xelor Quality Survey at VoiceCon Documents Ongoing Concerns With IP Telephony and VoIP Among Conference Attendees.

SALEM, N.H. -- Xelor Software(TM) today announced the results of the fourth Xelor Quality(TM) Survey, which was conducted at VoiceCon Spring 2006 in Orlando, Fla. The newest survey documents the ongoing concerns of IT and channel sales professionals with the reliability, performance and quality of enterprise IP telephony (IPT) and voice-over-IP (VoIP).

Confirming the results of previous Xelor Quality Surveys, which were conducted at VoiceCon Fall 2005, Internet Telephony West 2005 and Internet Telephony East 2006, the latest survey shows that a clear majority of the people who have not implemented IPT agree that "IP telephony is a wonderful technology, but it still has a ways to go before it's as good as old-fashioned TDM circuit-switched telephony."

"The surveys confirm that many major corporations, including Fortune 500 companies, are delaying the mass roll-out of IP telephony because of concerns about maturity and reliability," said Steven Guthrie, vice president of marketing at Xelor Software.

In fact, when asked to provide reasons for not deploying IPT, 59% of survey participants stated that they were waiting for IP telephony to mature, had heard that it was unreliable, or that their existing system worked fine.

Reliability and quality are current issues even among companies that have deployed IPT/VoIP. Across all four surveys, almost three-quarters (74%) of the implementers have deployed some form of Quality of Service (QoS) technique or technology. And yet more than half (52%) of these companies have experienced user complaints about the reliability, performance and quality of their IP telephony.

"Our surveys continue to show that IP telephony suffers from a perception problem, a root cause of which is in the failure of current tools and techniques for the configuration, deployment and management of QoS on the enterprise network," said Guthrie.
