XEROX WILL MARKET PRISM SOFTWARE SYSTEM TO DRAMATICALLY SPEED UP HP DOCUMENT PRINTING

LAKE FOREST, Calif., Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Xerox Corp. (NYSE: XRX) and Prism Sotfware Corp. of Lake Forest have signed a marketing agreement whereby the Xerox organization will market the new Prism Printer Server system. The Prism system is a product which enables the user to print documents on high-speed Xerox laser printers, when the documents were originally created to be printed on a Hewlett Packard (or compatible) laser printer. The benefit is that the Xerox laser printers print from 23 to 135 pages per minute, while the HP desktop laser printers produce from 4 to 17 pages per minute. Any organization that produces substantial printed material which has been generated on PCs, using the popular PC word processors, can increase productivity greatly by using the Prism products.
The Xerox Connection, located in El Segundo, Calif., will have overall responsibility for the management of the Xerox/Prism relationship within Xerox.
In making the announcement, Arthur Wilkes, president of Prism Software Corp., said, "This is a significant step forward for the millions of computer users in the world who want to speed up the printing process. The system is architecturally designed to drive Xerox printers at their rated speed. The Prism product makes it easy to automatically manage printing and to direct printing instructions to many different printers which were not previously available to the large majority of word processor users."
The Prism printer server products are designed to automatically convert documents which were created in PCL4, PCL5, PCL3-Color and Postscript languages into the proper coded language to operate the high-speed Xerox printers. The product will be used on single PCs, in PC networks, in mid-sized computer systems and on large mainframe systems.
