XEROX RENAMES COMPANY TRAINING CENTER IN VIRGINIA "XEROX DOCUMENT UNIVERSITY"

LEESBURG, Va., Nov. 17 ~PRNewswire~ -- After 18 years with the lengthy identification "Xerox International Center for Training and Management Development," Xerox Corporation said today that the activity near here will be renamed "Xerox Document University ."
"This name change reflects more than just what the facility is called," said Paul A. Allaire, Xerox chairman and chief executive officer. "It reflects an expanded education mission.
"We want to make Xerox, The Document Company, an organization in which learning is second nature and new ideas are nurtured and implemented," said Allaire. "We want the training center to be a proof case inside the company for what we sell outside."
Xerox Document University is being positioned as the preferred supplier of education and training not only for Xerox employees, he said, but also for the company's external customers throughout the world.
As such, Xerox Document University "will continue to focus on providing employees the training and tools needed to create value for customers, as well as offering intensive learning programs to improve customer productivity, business performance and document processing skills."
Since it was opened in 1974, the Xerox center has provided more than 3 million class days of training for some 190,000 Xerox employee students. It currently is used by 12,000 students yearly. In addition, dozens of outside institutions from government and industry hold conferences and seminars at the facility.
This summer, an advanced training program was launched for customers offering new courses in executive leadership and professional development. It also continues a customer training activity which has been in existence for more than 10 years.
The training center, now in the midst of a $17 million facility expansion project, overlooks the Potomac River. It occupies 1.2 million square feet on a 109-acre site surrounded by Lansdowne, Xerox Realty Corporation's 2,260-acre, mixed use community development.
During its existence, the center has been variously referred to by Xerox employees by its full, formal name, by the initials "XICTMD," by "the training center," by "Leesburg" and, more recently, "Document University." Now the official designation is Xerox Document University.
