XEROX REJUVENATING COPIER LINE; ANNOUNCES THREE HIGH-SPEED COPIERS

ROCHESTER, N.Y., April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Three high-speed departmental office copiers announced today by Xerox Corp. (NYSE: XRX) propel the company past the midpoint in its year-long effort to revitalize its full line of office copiers.
The revitalization began in June 1992 and continued in January 1993 with the announcement of low- and medium-speed products.
"Today's announcement is the third in a wave of announcements that will continue to bring new products to market in every copier-market segment, rejuvenating and expanding the traditional Xerox copying line from top to bottom," said Patricia "Tosh" Barron, president, Office Document Products division, Xerox Corp.
The departmental products are the eighth, ninth and tenth copiers to be introduced since Xerox began announcing its new 53 Series of office copiers last summer. The 53 Series offers improved technology, enhanced designs and restyled appearances over the 50 Series and 10 Series products they succeed.
Today's announcement unveiled the Xerox 5365, which makes 62 copies per minute; the Xerox 5380, which makes 80 copies per minute and features highlight color; and the Xerox 5388, which makes 92 copies per minute. The copiers are designed to be used by office workers walk-up setting rather than by professional copier operators in a dedicated copying area.
The Xerox 5380 is the first departmental copier from Xerox to copy onto poster-sized paper of 17 by 22 inches. It also produces copies in black plus one additional color: red, blue, green or brown. Operators can add the second color by electronically selecting portions of a document to be colorized. The selection is made on a portable editing pad and transferred to the 5380 by means of a credit-card-sized Job Memory Card.
The Xerox 5365 and 5388 are based on the highly successful designs of the Xerox 5065 and 1090 copiers, which have won numerous awards from industry consulting firms. Additional features and capabilities are designed into the new products to improve their productivity and reliability, and enhance their operator friendliness. Both products now operate at sound levels that are two decibels lower than their predecessors.
"These copiers represent the latest efforts by Xerox to meet changing customer and market requirements more quickly than before," Barron said. "Our development times were shortened because of our commitment to listen to our customers and our restructuring into empowered product-development teams."
The new departmental copiers will be sold in the U.S. and Canada by Xerox sales representatives and agents. The suggested list prices are: Xerox 5365, $29,995; Xerox 5380, $37,500; Xerox 5388, $79,000.
Order taking begins today for the 5365 and 5388 and in May for the 5380.
