XEROX CORPORATION TO RECEIVE ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD

 NEW YORK, Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The World Environment Center announced today that Xerox Corporation has been selected as the recipient of the 1993 WEC Gold Medal for International Corporate Environmental Achievement.
 The WEC Gold Medal is awarded annually to a multinational corporation which has an established worldwide corporate environmental policy, has demonstrated implementation of the policy and shown evidence of continued leadership in the environmental arena.
 Xerox Corporation was selected as the recipient of the award by an independent, international jury of environmental experts from industry, government and academia which cited the company for its proactive environmental policy progressively strengthened since the 1960's, which goes beyond the baseline of compliance and includes "close-the-loop" purchasing, "cradle-to-grave" design and in-house and customer recycling programs.
 Mr. Paul A. Allaire, Xerox Corporation's chairman and chief executive officer, said, "We have only scratched the surface of what all of us must do to keep our planet livable. Proactive environmental practices are good for the earth and are good for business.  Past WEC Gold Medal awardees have been The Procter & Gamble Company (1992), Rohm and Haas Company (1991), IBM Corporation (1990), The Dow Chemical Company (1989), The British Petroleum Company p.l.c. (1988), E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company (1987), Exxon Corporation (1986) and 3M Company (1985).
 The WEC Gold Medal will be presented at the Ninth Annual WEC Gold Medal Dinner, to be held in the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., on April 30, 1993. The event will be chaired by Mr. Edwin L. Artzt, chairman and chief executive, The Procter & Gamble Company, the 1992 WEC Gold Medal laureate.
