XEROX ANNOUNCES PRODUCTS, OPTIONS FOR DOCUMENT PRODUCTION SYSTEMS ENVIRONMENTS

5775 SSE Digital Color Copier/Printer Offers Enhanced Color
Capabilities; 5390 Duplicating and Finishing System Speeds
End-to-End Production; Extended Finishing Solutions Added
to 5390 and DocuTech Publishing Series
ANAHEIM, Calif., July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Two products with enhanced features to maximize productivity, copy quality, reliability and operability in document production systems environments today were announced here by Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX). The company also announced extended finishing solutions for its new duplicator and for DocuTech Publishing Series printers.
The Xerox 5775 SSE Digital Color Copier/Printer and the Xerox 5390 Duplicating and Finishing System build upon the features of the Xerox 5775 and Xerox 5090 respectively. The two products continue the expansion and rejuvenation of Xerox Corporation's full-line of copiers and duplicators. The announcements were made at NAQP Quick Print '93, the National Association of Quick Printers' convention and industry trade show.
The 5775 SSE is equipped with advanced capabilities, including increased color sharpness and saturation on color copies, improved productivity for long-run and two-sided color copying, enhancements to the 35 mm slide and film projector, PANTONE-licensed color matching, upgraded editing and colorization options, and expanded auditron account tracking.
The 5390 Duplicating and Finishing System has enhanced features and an advanced remote diagnostics capability, as well as an optional automatic stapler/folder unit, the Xerox ASF 135, the first of a series of extended finishing capabilities enabled by the new duplicator.
"Increasingly, customers want to customize documents, cut through black-and-white clutter with color, and reduce waste and obsolescence through demand-publishing," said Colin J. O'Brien, president, Document Production Systems Division, Xerox Corporation. "The 5775 SSE, 5390/ASF 135 and the extended DocuTech finishing solutions provide customers with creative, cost-effective means of reaping these benefits by enabling the transfer of many applications from offset presses. In today's production environments, customers need a variety of options that improve productivity and maximize quality to produce documents that demand attention," O'Brien said.
 COPY QUALITY ENHANCEMENT
New Software filters on the 5775 SSE enable the production of full- color copies with benchmark sharpness and increased color saturation. Users now can choose from copy quality settings including a standard walk-up mode which provides more saturated colors (bluer blues, greener greens) or the photo mode which offers color fidelity truest to the original.
Software enhancements also improve the color balance, saturation and image sharpness of hard copies from 35 mm slides and film. The 5775 SSE now also has been licensed to match PANTONE Colors. Additional hardware and software changes are designed to enhance the reliability and performance of the 5775 SSE, including improved copy quality, two-sided copying and operator controls.
 BUILDING ON 5090 HERITAGE
The 5390 retains and builds on the features of its predecessor, the 5090 duplicator. Like the 5090, the new duplicator prints at 135 copies per minute; its sensors continuously monitor and adjust copy quality; and multiple paper sources allow imaging onto covers, 9-inch tabs, transparencies and oversized paper stocks.
The duplicator includes as standard the enhanced Remote Interactive Communications system, Remote Diagnostics. The system continuously monitors the 5390's performance and reports potential trouble to a host computer that notifies a Xerox service representative before the failure occurs.
A new "set transporter" in the 5390's finishing module enables the duplicator to be used in-line with a variety of finishing equipment, including the Xerox ASF 135 Automatic Stapler/Folder and future options. The unit automatically staples and folds (and trims the shingled-edge, if optional trimmer module is added to the ASF 135) printed sets into completed booklets in one step, ideal for such applications as benefits booklets, newsletters and phone directories.
 DOCUTECH FINISHING EXTENSIONS
Two finishing options extend the end-to-end document production publishing productivity of the Xerox DocuTech Publishing Series.
The Xerox ASF 100 Automatic Stapler/Folder configured in-line with the Xerox DocuTech Model 90 increases productivity, flexibility and cost-savings during the critical document finishing stage. The ASF 100 also offers off-line finishing capabilities with other equipment.
The Xerox Cover Insertion Module, an enhancement to the Xerox DocuTech Model 135 Signature Booklet Maker, extends this optional in- line finishing capability to include cover options.
The ASF 100 Automatic Stapler/Folder and the Cover Insertion Module enable DocuTech Publishing Series production of a variety of publications in a continuous end-to-end process. With the ASF 100 or Cover Insertion Module in-line, such publications as newsletters, reports, surveys, booklets and calendars can be produced and finished entirely on the DocuTech Model 90 and DocuTech Model 135, respectively.
