XEROX ANNOUNCES HIGH-SPEED, PLAIN-PAPER, ENGINEERING PRINTER/PLOTTER; PRODUCES DOCUMENTS UP TO 30 FEET LONG

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- A high-speed, plain-paper printer/plotter that produces high-quality engineering documents up to 36 inches wide and 30 feet long from a variety of computer-aided-design and engineering document management systems was announced today by Xerox Engineering Systems.
The Xerox 8845 Engineering Printer/Plotter is the newest in the Xerox 8840 family of plain-paper printer/plotters. Designed for high- volume demands, the Xerox 8845 accepts input from computer-aided-design (CAD) workstations, and aperture-card and hard-copy scanners.
Documents can be produced on bond paper, film or vellum at 13 A-size, 11 B-size, eight C-size, six D-size or 3.6 E-size prints per minute. In addition, the 8845 produces plots up to 30 feet in length. This is significant for specialty CAD applications, such as those used in the automotive and aerospace industries, in which versatility of plot length is required.
The Xerox Graphics Controller running ServeWare automatically accepts graphic data in multiple plot formats, and allows connection to major networks while offering an upgrade path. ServeWare, Xerox network server software product, facilitates client/server plotting and software rasterization. Xerox also offers Adobe PostScript to 8845 customers as an option.
The internal interface also provides the capability to rasterize vector data and spool it to the plotter, enabling the high throughput capability of the 8845.
"Our customers are requiring high-speed, high-quality prints and plots of engineering drawings and documentation in mixed sizes and formats," said Barry R. Lathan, vice president and general manager, Plotter Products Business Team, Xerox Engineering Systems. "Developed to answer these and many other critical market demands, the 8845 is designed for customers who, increasingly, are requiring plain-paper output for wide-format applications."
Equipped with an LED recording head, the 8845 prints at 400 dots per inch (dpi) resolution. The 400 dpi array reproduces fine lines while also producing solid black areas with uniform density. Diagonals and curves are reproduced with optimum quality. State-of-the-art single component xerography ensures consistent plot quality, low cost per copy and ease of use -- all on a selection of media, including bond paper, film and vellum.
The Xerox 8845 operates unattended and is designed as a centralized printer/plotter for a drawing management system, as a network resource in an engineering department, as a remote printer for an engineering reproduction department and as a high-speed plotter in a centralized CAD plotting environment. Output is automatically cut to size, rolled and taped when the optional baler is used.
The Xerox 8845 is available worldwide from the Xerox Engineering Systems direct sales force and through authorized Xerox Raster Medallion dealers. The Xerox 8845 is priced from $59,990 to $88,000 depending upon controller configurations and finishing options. Order taking begins immediately with initial shipments scheduled for Aug. 31.
The Xerox 8845 is covered under the Xerox Total Satisfaction Guarantee. Under the guarantee, customers decide for themselves whether the product is performing to their satisfaction. If they are not satisfied, Xerox will replace the product with an identical model or machine with comparable features and capabilities -- up to three years from the date of delivery.
