XEROX AND INTERLEAF ALLIANCE AUTOMATES PRINT PRODUCTION PROCESS

BOSTON, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) and Interleaf, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: LEAF), today announced software that enables customized "on-demand" printing from Interleaf software to Xerox document production systems.
The software, Interleaf DemandPrint(TM), addresses the document production marketplace shift to "just-in-time," on-demand printing by allowing workgroups to produce professionally published documents electronically from Interleaf desktops to Xerox DocuTech Network Publishers.
The strategic Xerox and Interleaf alliance, formed nearly three years ago with the launch of the Xerox DocuTech Publishing Series, teams two leaders in document management and production systems.
"Interleaf's recognized leadership in open document management software combined with Xerox Corporation's document production systems enable customers to leverage their investments with both organizations," said Colin O'Brien, president, Xerox Document Production Systems Division. "Xerox and Interleaf share a vision of how advancements in publishing and printing can improve productivity and streamline operations. The combined offerings provide our mutual customers with a powerful end-to-end publishing solution for business-critical applications."
Customer demand cultivated Interleaf DemandPrint from initial development through field testing, and has driven key features and enhancements. Together, DemandPrint, which works through Interleaf 5 software, and the DocuTech Network Publishers, Models 135 and 90, will provide customers with an easily accessible demand publishing system that provides faster turnaround of high-quality, complex documents at lower costs.
"The DemandPrint/DocuTech Network Publisher solution is an enabler for reengineering document management and production processes," said Mark Ruport, Interleaf president and CEO. "Now, demand printing will allow our mutual customers to move away from the costly, time-consuming traditional process of manufacturing and warehousing documents. Instead, our customers will implement smart systems for delivering the right information at the right time."
Initially, the DemandPrint product launch will be conducted in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, although the companies plan to expand this product offering and other cooperative activities to additional worldwide markets over time.
Interleaf plans to extend future releases of its document creation software to other Xerox document production products, including the Xerox DocuPrint Series of black-and-white and highlight-color printers, as well as to the Xerox 5775 SSE Digital Color Copier/Printer with EFI Fiery Controller.
