X Factorhost Dermot O'Leary was forced to apologise to viewers after one of the contestants swore live on air.

After the show returned from an ad-break,Dermotstood on stage in front of the judges as he made excuses for the bad language being aired before the watershed.

He said: "Before the break, you might have heard some bad language, we can only apologise for that.

"Emotions running very high tonight but that's no excuse, so apologies all round."

It had happened when Janice Robinson was eliminated from the show in the first of tonight's shocking double elimination.

As she was comforted by the fellow members of her Overs category, Giovanni Spano and Danny Tetley, one of them can be heard repeatedly dropping the F-bomb.

However, viewers tuning into the show were more perplexed by Dermot's apology, as they hadn't actually heard the profanities in the first place.

Fans took toTwitterin a bid to find out what they'd missed.

Janice makes shock exit from X Factor

One said: "Did someone just swear?!"

While another asked: "wait, where was the bad language ??"

"What did Dermot apologise for? I didn't hear any bad language, what did he say?," another pondered.

And one posted: "where was the bad language on the x factor?? "

Following Janice's shock elimination from the ITV contest, LMA Choir were also sent home following a sing-off with Brendan Murray.

Next week on the show is Fright Night. James Arthur and Liam Payne will perform next Sunday.
