Torayfan CB-S 70G and 80G heat-sealable clear barrier films and CB-P 70G nonsealable clear barrier films are part of a new line of Torayfan Clear Barrier BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) films designed to replace polyvinylidene chloride (PVdC)-coated films. The new noncoated films have moisture transmission rates equal to those of PVdC-coated films, and they are nonyellowing, microwavable, and environmentally friendly, and contain a heat-seal layer, according to the manufacturer, Toray Plastics. Additionally, the new films promise increased mechanical properties (e.g., tensile strength, Young's modulus, and elongation), yielding 10% higher puncture resistance, 30% higher stiffness, and improved oil resistance. Toray reports that Torayfan CB-S films allow for a substantial cost savings over comparable heat-sealable, clear barrier films.

Applications for both the CB-S and CB-P films include a MVTR (moisture transmission rate) barrier web of multilayer laminations, a grease liner for packages requiring oil resistance, and source reduction for thick BOPP webs. Key features of these films are reported to include their excellent moisture-barrier capabilities, superior oil resistance, superb clarity, high performance in extrusion and adhesive laminations, and good film flatness and roll formation in the CB-S films.
