Would-be weavers: try your hand in Sacramento February 11 and 12.

Whether you're a closet weaver or merely curious about the craft, the Weavers' and Spinners' Guild of Sacramento welcomes you to a two-day open house. You can try weaving on a multiharness loom, assisted by a guild member who will explain the many techniques possible with a simple threading. You'll also see demonstrations of fleece preparation, spinning, tapestry, rug making, Japanese braid, and the use of different types of looms.

One member, who raises silkworms, will show how thread is taken from a cocoon. And while you browse and learn, fashion models will waft about in garments made from handwoven fabrics or knitted from handspun fibers.

Hours are 1 to 6 Saturday, February 11, and 10 to 5 Sunday, February 12. Events take place at the Iva Gard Shepard Garden and Art Center, 3330 McKinely Boulevard. Admission is free.
