World heart day observed in KTH.
PESHAWAR -- Department of Cardiology, Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) Thursday marked World Heart Day to create awareness among general public under the banner of Pakistan Cardiac Society in Collaboration with World Heart Federation.
The walk was attended by incharge Cardiology KTH Associate Prof Dr Amber Ashraf, Assistant Prof Dr Saadiq Shah, Assistant Prof Dr Mohammad Faheem, Assistant Prof Dr Farooq and large number of faculty staff, managerial staff, TMO's, HO's, nursing and paramedics staff, health professionals and general public.
There was public awareness interactive session on preventive cardiology for nurses, paramedics and general public in KTH was held, where Dr Farooq, Dr Fahim, incharge Pulmonology KTH Dr Saadia and Dr Amber Ashraf talked on different prevention risk factors like hypertension, diabetes, smoking, women heart diseases respectively.
Free medical camp at cardiology OPD KTH for general public awareness about their blood pressure, sugar, cholesterol and obesity was also arranged.
Dr Amber Ashraf briefed the audience that cardiovascular disease is accountable for nearly half of all Non Communicable Diseases (NCD) death and disability making it the world's number one killer. She said that the need of the day is to create awareness among general public about cardiovascular diseases.
Any disease of the heart, vascular disease of the brain, or disease of the blood vessel constitutes a cardiovascular disease. The most prevalent cardiovascular disease includes coronary heart disease and cerebrovascular disease.
