World Space Week commences.
KARACHI -- The inaugural ceremony of World Space Week (WSW) 2014 was organized by Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), here on Wednesday at National Centre for Remote Sensing & Geo Informatics (NCRG) SUPARCO Headquarters.
Chairman SUPARCO, Maj. Gen. (Retd) Ahmed Bilal, was the chief guest of the ceremony. The celebrations are to be held up to November 10 in 11 cities of Pakistan.
The Chairman in his speech said that SUPARCO is determined to carryout efforts and achieve self reliance in the domain of space for socioeconomic uplift of the country.
He quoted some of the working areas of SUPARCO including Satellite communication, Satellite remote sensing, GIS, Satellite meteorology, Earth observation satellite design & development and Space & atmospheric science.
He further said that SUPARCO is also mandated to create awareness about space technology and applications within students and professionals.
The celebration of WSW is one of the endeavours being carried out by SUPARCO in this realm.
A colourful display of beautiful posters made by school students aged 811 years from all over the country adorned the lobby of the NCRG auditorium.
The inaugural ceremony concluded with inauguration of the space education bus. A team of SUPARCO scientists departed to create space related awareness in school students in different schools of Karachi.
The upcoming events include Quiz, Declamation & Water Rocket Demonstration.
On November 6, quiz competition and water rocket competition will be held at SUPARCO Headquarters. Declamation contest will be held on November 7 at SUPARCO Headquarters.
A 2 day Space Fair would be held at PAF Museum Karachi for the general public, school and university students on November 8 9.
The fair would include many fascinating space related activities like Space Movie Theatre, Philately Stall, Sky Observation, University Project Competition, Kids Arena, Water Rocket Demonstration and Space Studio etc.
Exhibition would also be held at PAF Museum during Space Fair. It will include the display of satellite and rocket models, space application poster presentations, posters showing the progress, services and achievements of SUPARCO. Universities shall also be invited to display their models in the exhibition. The exhibition would be open to all the attendees of the space fair.
