World Fisheries Day celebrated at UVAS.

LAHORE -- The Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) on Tuesday observed the World Fisheries Day in collaboration with the US Soybean Export Council (USSEC) and American Soybean Association (ASA).

Stakeholders from academia, industry, Punjab Fisheries Department and progressive fish farmers attended the events held at Ravi Campus, Pattoki.

The day started with fish netting and then UVAS Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani led a walk while Chairman Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture Dr Noor Khan, RSN Janjua USSEC, representatives from Aquaculture Feed Industry, Supreme Group-Sahiwal, Super Punjab-Multan and Oryza Organics-Lahore and a large number of students and faculty members were present.

On the occasion, guests visited the stalls of fish value-added products prepared by students and appreciated their efforts.

Later on, adressing a seminar, Prof Masood Rabbani highlighted the importance of fish and shared that aquaculture sector was actively developing like other sectors in Pakistan and stressed that there was a lot to be done by the industry.

RSN Janjua gave a brief introduction about the role of soy-based feed in aquaculture of Pakistan. The stakeholders appreciated the UVAS efforts to promote aquaculture in Pakistan.
