World Cup's going from bad to wurst.

Byline: Patsy

THE World Cup is finally getting down to the nitty gritty as they separate the wheat from the chaff. To be honest we have seen teams competing who should have been at home watching it on the telly.

The powers that be put their financial interests before the good of the game and as a result the greatest sporting show on Earth was turned into a charade.

Some of the teams still in the competition are very ordinary and only the people who don't know any better would get carried away by all the hype that has been generated.

In my opinion as every World Cup comes around the standard gets worse and I find it hard to get excited about it.

For me the highlight has been the way fans from every corner of the globe have come together in an atmosphere of celebration.

They are united under the banner of sport.

A simple game of football turns us all into human beings and regardless of whose name goes on the trophy all the teams will be winners as they discover that we have more to unite than to divide us.

The irony of this World Cup is that when the Olympic games were staged there many years ago the participating countries had to stand and salute Adolf Hitler.

The world and sport has come a long way since those dark days. Now every one can compete in an atmosphere of equality and togetherness and long may it continue.
