World Bank to provide $15 million for construction of water intake structure and repair of water pipelines in Bishkek residential neighborhoods.
The World Bank will provide $15 million for construction of the water intake structure and rehabilitation of water pipelines in the residential neighborhoods in Bishkek, Bishkek Vice Mayor Torobek Imashov told a news conference today. The first installment has been already received and the environmental review has been accomplished. The south-western part of Bishkek will be supplied with water upon construction of the water intake structure. These funds will be also used for building water supply systems in Ak Orgo, Ak Ordo residential neighborhoods, Selektsionnyi, Jal and Orok villages. Half of the funds is provided in form of a grant, another part as a long-term credit for 15 years at 1.5%. Bishkek mayor's office signed the agreement with local communities for collection of financial resources for building irrigation networks, construction of grounds, power substations and garbage collection. The collected funds will constitute 5% of the project budget. The municipal authorities plan to build schools in Ak Orgo, Kok Jar and Ala Too with around 400 million som allocated from the local budget. 24 km of the roads will be built in 7 residential neighborhoods in Bishkek, such as Kalys Ordo, Tynchtyk, Ak Orgo, Altyn Ordo for 218 million som provided by EBRD. Only 3 km of the roads weer built due to the events of the previous year. 18 km of the road with asphalt covering will be built this year. The municipal authorities will allocate 61 million for infrastructure development of 47 residential neighborhoods for building power transformers, bridges, roads, street lightning, etc. The request for additional 200 million som for infrastructure projects was submitted to the government.
