World's best heading for biggest Wirral kite festival.
Despite the distance from Bondi Beach, Australian kite-flyers Godfrey and Karen Gamble will be among those taking part in Wirral International Kite Festival this year.
Godfrey and Karen - acknowledged as the best kite-flyers in Australia - have won awards at the Festival of the Winds at Bondi in Sydney.
This year they will be amazing visitors with their beautifully decorated 3-D kites over the festival weekend, which takes place on Saturday June 7 and Sunday June 8 at the Dips, New Brighton.
The kite festival has grown enormously over the past few years and is this year being held as part of Capital of Culture 2008.
This year's event will feature some of the world's top kite makers; as well as Godfrey and Karen from Australia. It will welcome Rolf Zimmerman, Germany's greatest kite-maker, who will be entertaining visitors at the festival with his huge lobster kite, large teddy bears and spectacular dragon.
The Kites over the Mersey Festival has also attracted the attention of the Princess of the Bali Royal family, RA Helmi Ginanti, who will be flying traditional Bali and Indonesian kites.
As well as stunt flying, giant show kites and art kites, the festival will offer the opportunity for children to participate in kite workshops as well as enter their teddy bear into the ever popular Teddy Drop.
