Workshop to combine digital, traditional media.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill.--Governors State University and Digital Atelier will present "Beyond the Digital Print 2002," a seminar and workshop combining digital and traditional media June 20 and 21. This two-day workshop is for artists who wish to combine their digital print files with traditional layering, transfers and digital decals.

An exhibition featuring the work by Digital Atelier members Dorothy Krause, Bonny Lhotka and Karin Schminke is scheduled from June 4 to 26. The artists will give a public presentation about their artwork and techniques at the exhibition reception on June 19.

Workshop content will include classes on: layering digital prints with traditional media such as encaustic, paint and collage elements; making custom substrates on which to print or transfer (including fresco and other textured surfaces); transferring digital prints to paper and other substrates without a press; producing "digital decals," an emulsion-type transfer for rough and irregular surfaces; and using pre-coats and post-coats.

Large work areas, presses, computers, film and flatbed scanners and Epson 2000P and 3000 printers will be available at the workshop, which costs $425. For more information, visit www.govst.edu/users/godenver or e-mail m-bookwalter@govst.edu.
