Workshop on using solar energy in cooling.

Amman, June 13 (Petra) - Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with the German Agency for International Cooperation, on Wednesday organized a workshop on the use of solar energy in cooling systems.

Minister of Environment Yaseen Khayyat said that the project of using of solar energy in air conditions, funded by the German agency, aims to create sustainable systems powered by solar power. It also aims to transfer environment-friendly technology into the Kingdom, the minister added, noting the national strategy for phasing out hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC), which cause ozone depletion.

Jordan has phased out all central cooling systems using chlorofluorocarbons (CFC), which damage the ozone layer, Khayyat said.

A total of 300 tonnes of CFCs were phased out by replacing central cooling systems using CFCs in four Jordanian companies, the minister added.

The workshop discussed means to complete use of solar energy in cooling systems, to create a sustainable air conditioning system and reduce greenhouse gases and fluorine compounds emissions, using advanced German technology in solar energy.
