Works of 5th International Congress on Advances in Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics open.

HAMMAMET, Dec. 19, 2010 (TAP) - "Advances in Civil Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics" is the theme of the 5th International Congress which started on Saturday in Hammamet, with the participation of 250 researchers, academics and students from 22 Arab countries representing universities specialised in mechanical engineering and applied mechanics.

The congress is organised by the "Ecole Polytechnique" of Tunisia, in association with the National School of Engineers of Sfax, American "Virginia Tech" University and the Tunisian Scientific Association.

Participants will focus on several issues related to scientific novelties in the area of mechanical engineering and applied mechanics, including "soil mechanics," "fluid mechanics" and "mechanics of materials."

Alongside the three-day works, a Tunisian-American workshop is scheduled on advances in research and training in intelligent systems of remote sensing.

This International Scientific Congress aims, in particular, to establish ties between Tunisian researchers and their foreign counterparts in mechanical engineering and applied mechanisms.

It also seeks to open prospects for bilateral or multilateral co-operation for Tunisian researchers as part of joint research projects allowing them to present their research works and discuss with confirmed experts in the field.

Secretary of State in charge of Scientific Research Refaat Chaabouni underlined at the opening of works that this event managed to gather a large number of specialists from the five continents.

It is also an opportunity to discuss scientific novelties in the field of mechanical engineering and mechanics to strengthen academic partnership and co-operation, said the Secretary of State, reiterating Tunisia's will to strengthen this co-operation to further enhance the contribution of the higher education and scientific research system.
