Work put on hold for carnival parade; UTILITIES.

Work on one of Shrewsbury's busiest streets will be suspended to allow the town's carnival to pass through.

Contractors working for gas network Cadent beat the clock to get Mardol Head open for Saturday's event. Balfour Beatty, who are working on behalf of Cadent replacing ageing 1960s gas mains in Mardol Head and Shoplatch, raced against time to install the first lengths of new gas pipe.

Cadent contractors will clear barriers away from the site and down tools, before resuming work on Sunday when the road closure will be reinstated.

Shrewsbury Carnival is a must-see event in the town's summer calendar, raising thousands of pounds for charity.
